For those of you who were able to read my last blog post, you have now had some time to ponder what you think about food, health and dieting. What are those fundamental core beliefs that promote your health or that are holding you back. I have been also thinking about these things. What do I believe, what beliefs did I adopt from my parents, what did I adopt from my peers, what did I subconsciously absorb through television. What beliefs did I purposely choose after being mentored through literature, thought leaders, the Bible and leading of the Holy Spirit? This is a type of soul searching that we all must go through in order to bring our thoughtless actions into our conscious reality of living. We must be thinking beings. We must think about every action that we take, we cannot live in oblivion and expect to mystically arrive at our intended destination.
My husband was away on business so the house was quiet and I found my self eating out of boredom. I had known of my leaning towards eating in reaction to anger, yet this was a new one for me. Once recognized, I was able to make countermeasures. Recognition, knowing one's self is the first step towards better health. Knowing however, will not move you forward unless you act and take steps to change behavior.
So you want to take that step in the right direction, but this monkey on your back, says, "you dieted before, it doesn't work for you, you are doomed to be unhealthy. This is your lot in life. This is just the gene pool you were cursed with so why bother." Tell that monkey to hush up because it is just not true. Perhaps you did choose a diet path before and became discouraged, or perhaps it was a plan that was harmful for your health, the plan was not sustainable and you quit, only to return to your old habits. (A personal nutrition and health coach can help you succeed) I don't recommend dieting to my clients because this at times can cause harm and often is not sustainable for a lifetime. Let's focus on the things you can do and the more good will eventually squeeze out the bad.
There is a psychology of eating that has a major impact on successfully navigating the food matrix. We are drawn toward those things that give us pleasure and the advertising industry certainly knows how to leverage that instinct. Sugary and salty snacks are advertised with a great deal of fun, party, friends and happiness. Alcohol and beverage commercials come with fun and pretty women. They never show the pain of liver damage, diabetes, or heart disease. When we allow our body to experience the pain, bringing this out of our subconsciousness into our consciousness, then we can make real choices. Let me tell you my story. I love chocolate, and I am a sugar addict. Some of my favorite things to eat are pecan pie, Snickers candy bar, chocolate chip cookies. I started noticing after going on a plant based, raw food diet for a while that when I had a slice of pecan pie, the top of my brain was hurting, like on fire. Not fun. A few weeks passed and I had another opportunity for something sweet (baked) and the same painful result. Now, I am painfully aware of what the overload of sugar is doing to my brain. So I made a conscious NOTE TO SELF: I no longer like pecan pie, or Snickers. As an extra cautionary support, I told my family, please remind me of my pain when I am tempted by these wonderful treats? And yes, I am still tempted. My common response when invited to partake is, Thank you very much, my mouth wants this very much, but my stomach has said no.
If you are like me, rejection is not a happy experience. To deal with sadness many choose to eat, actually there is a whole category of foods called comfort foods. How does a food comfort us really? They have no arms for hugging, no mouth for pleasing encouraging words, no shoulders for lifting our load? We need to learn to accept our true selves, it is okay to love your own body. The Christian Bible even states to "love your neighbor as you love yourself" most just focus on the part about loving your neighbor. When you love your body, you will treat it with respect, feed it with nourishing food, and bathe it with nontoxic products. Did you know that we are spiritual beings? And if you are a confessing Christ Follower born again of His spirit, then your body is a living temple for the Holy Spirit to reside. When you truly get you head and heart wrapped around that belief, you will be so much more motivated in taking care of that temple we call our body. Living foods provide life giving nutrients to each cell of our body. When we eat whole foods, vegetables, and fruits, (the majority being raw) then we also get the enzymes, antioxidants, and the entire vitamin matrix for building, healing, and renewing cells. The principle here is to eat more living food, than dead food. Life gives life. Besides food, we need to breath, breath in deeply. Let that breath of life flow in through your nostrils and all the way down to your toes. And exhale all the junk. Be thankful. What are you thankful for at this very moment? Showing gratitude also benefits our health. I have heard recently, that unforgiveness will hinder a cancer patient from healing. Are you holding any bitterness? Write a forgiveness letter. If the person is yet alive, have a face to face conversation and clear the air. You might find that what you believed about the situation was not as you imagined. (As your personal wellness coach, I will love on you and demonstrate that you are one amazing individual. You are meant to be well and to live vibrantly.)

Are you on a wellness journey? Have you heard Angie's Story, or attended the Wellness Journey Class? I actually started my wellness quest after attending a live class in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I recommend this for all of my clients as a foundation for moving forward. We don't know what we don't know. You can register for a live webinar here and when you let me know that you have registered, I will send you the class materials.
The food enters first in the mouth, so we will start there next. We will talk about oral health and oral hygiene and the connection to the health of every other organ in the body.

We are thoughtfully created beings
I believe the first step in becoming well is to recognize that you are not well. What is your true reality? Are you vibrant or lethargic? If you are not full of vitality then why not? What is the root cause of you malady? Do not accept anything less than vibrant health and physical mobility. A diagnoses does not have to be your reality. You have the power to change direction through lifestyle changes. Learn to treat the cause not the symptom. Your life was meant to be whole in every aspect; mentally, physically, and spiritually. This wholeness is from head to toe and to the very cells themselves. Your body is designed to function optimally by taking in proper nourishment to support both the internal and external communications of our cells. Our creator designed a self-adjusting repair and maintenance system for us to live out our life's purpose. We are indeed His masterpiece. We begin by acknowledging that we are a thoughtfully created being and not haphazardly formed. So if we are meant to function optimally, and our cells are designed to be operating in perfect harmony, then the problem must lie with the abuse or support this body is receiving from us. Are we attending to the needs of this beautiful being as we should? For personalized nutrition and health support request resources here.
